My Journey to Crafting Seasonings and Products
The inspiration behind my seasonings and products originates from my paternal grandmother, Abuela Mechè, and her enchanting backyard. When she became ill with lung cancer, I traveled to Honduras to care for her and treasure our time together.
We both recognized that her condition was terminal; her illness had progressed too far. Being by her side was her greatest wish. During my visit, I devoted my time to preparing meals for her, as she craved many Puerto Rican dishes from her days in Chicago. My father and I created a hearty feast before heading back to Chicago, feeling deep down that it might be our final dinner together.
We made pasteles de yuca, pasteles de masa, and arroz con gandules. I gathered banana leaves from the plantain trees in her backyard, and we cooked over an open fire outside. I captured a photograph of that special moment, unknowingly creating the logo for my brand.
As I reflect on how I cooked for her nearly every day, I remember the joy on her face with each bite. Though she often appeared serious, her smile would light up as she savored the food. My hope is that when people enjoy my products, they too will feel inspired and smile with every taste.
